KeyBot · v2.4
First-Time Setup — Wi-Fi Connection
The first time you use the device, or whenever it has no stored Wi-Fi credentials, the OLED shows a WIFI SETUP screen with an app-install QR code. Scanning it opens the KeyBot page on Google Play. Wi-Fi information is sent to the device via BLE provisioning from the app.
- First connect your phone to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network KeyBot only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Before starting setup, connect your phone to the 2.4GHz band of the router you want to use.
- Connect the device to USB power Plug it into a PC USB port or a USB charger. The boot screen appears on the OLED.
- Check for the WIFI SETUP screen If there are no stored Wi-Fi credentials, BLE advertising starts automatically and the WIFI SETUP screen (app-install QR code) appears on the OLED.
- Open the KeyBot app → Wi-Fi Setup menu When you open the Wi-Fi setup menu in the app, the SSID your phone is currently connected to is filled in automatically.
- Enter the password and connect Check that the SSID is correct, enter the password, and tap Connect. If the SSID is wrong, type it in manually. The device then connects to Wi-Fi automatically.
- Confirm the connection If an IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.50) appears at the top of the OLED, the connection succeeded.
When several routers share the same name#
Firmware v2.4.3 · App 2.5.1 or later
If you have several routers with the same SSID and password (for example, living room and small room), you can choose which one the keyboard connects to. The keyboard scans all channels to find routers with the same name.
| One or none | Connects right away without asking. |
|---|---|
| Two or more | The app shows “Several routers with the same name were found”. Tap the router you want in the list. |
| List details | Router …A1:B2:C3 (last 3 bytes of the MAC address — compare with the MAC on the router's label) · Signal −45 dBm (closer to 0 is stronger) · Channel. The strongest one is marked “Strongest”. |
| Automatic | Tap “Automatic (strongest signal)” to connect to the router with the strongest signal. |
| Remembered | The router you pick is stored on the keyboard and used directly at the next boot. If it can't be seen, the keyboard falls back to the strongest router. |
| If you don't choose | After 90 seconds with no choice, or if the app disconnects, the keyboard connects to the strongest router automatically. |
Older apps and older firmware still work together. The choice dialog appears only when both app 2.5.1 and firmware v2.4.3 are installed; otherwise the keyboard connects to the strongest router without asking.
Wi-Fi credentials are stored permanently on the device. It reconnects automatically after a power cycle, and BLE setup is not needed again.
Only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is supported. It will not connect to a 5GHz-only router. Make sure the router's 2.4GHz band is enabled. On connection failure, it retries automatically up to 3 times.
